On Fedora/CentOS and other RHEL-based systems: sudo dnf install xmonad 2. To install xmonad on Debian/Ubuntu, run: sudo apt install xmonad I made fresh install, and now I see that new updated version of awesome window manager have grey screen, previous version had wallpaper where was written awesome.I was searching around web to find that wallpaper, but no luck. Im on Ubuntu but I doubt the executable name would be different on other flavors. As for its feature set, the program offers an extensive extensions library, Xinerama support (for multi-display setups), and on-the-fly reconfiguration, among others. When I installed Awesome the two executables were awesome and awesome-client, so I just changed my window manager line to 'awesome &' and that was that. One of xmonad's biggest advantages is that it automates window arrangement for you, so you can focus better on getting your work done. However, for those with a good understanding of the language, the scope of customizability and usability reaches far beyond what you can get out of most window managers.
